Free School Meals

All KS1 children are entitled to universal free school meals.

Universal Free School Meals are available for all KS1 children (Early Years, Year 1 and Year 2). Part of the funding that the school receives is in respect of children who are registered for free school meals. Whilst the change in entitlement means you will no longer be required to apply for a meal, if you don’t apply but are in receipt of the benefits listed below, our school will miss out on additional funding of £1300 per child which support your child’s learning in the school environment.

In order for our school to qualify for this additional funding we are asking you to provide us with your name, date of birth and National Insurance Number or asylum seeker reference. This will enable the LA to make an assessment to confirm if we qualify to receive this funding. It is important to note that no other parents or pupils will know you have been assessed and it will not affect any other benefits you are claiming.

Do you qualify? You can register your child for Free School Meals if you get any of these benefits:

• Income Support

• Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance

• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

• The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit

• Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual

income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) that does not exceed £16,190

• You will not normally be eligible if you receive any amount of Working Tax Credit

Key Stage Two Pupils

Schools receive additional funding of £1300 per pupil for those pupils who qualify for free schools meals. This is different to the Universal School Meals scheme that came into force in September, when all pupils in Key Stage One qualify for a school meal.

For pupils in Years 3-6, if parents are in receipt of the benefits listed below, and do not apply for Free School Meals, our school will miss out on additional funding of £1300 per pupil which is used to support your child’s learning in the school environment, including the purchase of additional resources and investment in staffing.
